SARCOFAGUS: "Live in Studio 1979" coming soon on limited LP & digipak CD

The first step in the saga of SARCOFAGUS, the fathers of Finnish heavy metal, was a self financed studio session in 1979. These seven songs were aired once on Finnish national radio and then buried in time when the band found their now classic sound. Svart Records have been given the privilege to finally officially remaster, release and distribute this fascinating tape, which documents the young, hungry band searching for their style. One can hear influences of progressive & classic hard rock in these early tunes.
"Live in Studio 1979" will be released in the spring of 2010 as a limited digipack CD and a luxurious LP with a giant booklet featuring rare and unseen photographs and liner notes. Svart Records will also re-release the original three Sarcofagus albums (Cycle of Life, Envoy of Death, Moottorilinnut) and the single "Go to Hell" on vinyl. More info will be posted at www.svartrecords.com later in the year.

SARCOFAGUS - BACK FROM THE DEAD

The first heavy metal band of Finland SARCOFAGUS is back together and touring in Finland.

Sarcofagus was formed by guitarist Kimmo Kuusniemi and singer Hannu Leiden in 1977 and released early metal recordings during the years 1979-1981 (single Go to Hell/All Those Lies 1979 and albums Cycle of Life, Envoy of Death and Moottorilinnut/Motorbirds 1980-1981).

The band starts touring in Finland in September 2010, after a 30 year break, with most of the original line up on board: guitarist Kimmo Kuusniemi, keyboard player Esa Kotilainen and bass player Juha Kiminki are all members of the old Sarcofagus. Famous Finnish drummer Anssi Nykänen and singers Jukka Ritari from Kimmo Kuusniemi Band Moottorilinnut/Motorbirds album and Tanja Katinka Karttunen from the latest 2007 Sarcofagus Core Values album are part of the current line up.

Following in the footsteps of the old Sarcofagus, a stage show, surprises and guest stars will be part of the act. The founding member singer Hannu Leiden will join the forces when not busy with his own band Havana Black. The Kimmo Kuusniemi's notorious flame thrower guitar will be used, when allowed.

Helsinki dates include: 12.9 headlining at Metal Warning Festival at Gloria, and 23.9 Sarcofagus Show "Back from the Dead" with guest stars at Dante's. More dates to be announced soon.

- Sarcofagus also pioneered in making one of the first full album length music videos in the world (1981 for the Moottorilinnut/Motorbirds album).

- Sarcofagus guitarist and film maker Kimmo Kuusniemi produced the international documentary "Promised Land of Heavy Metal" about the Finnish Metal phenomenon in 2008 (co production with YLE TV.) www.promisedlandofmetal.com

- A comprehensive Sarcofagus iPhone App came out in the Apple store in 2010.

- Early Sarcofagus recordings will be re released on Vinyl by SVART Records, starting in
September 2010 with the previously unreleased "Sarcofagus Live in Studio 1979" and the first 1979 album "Cycle of Life".http://www.promisedlandofmetal.com/shapeimage_18_link_0
